Now that I have started my new job the weeks seem to fly by! I am always amazed when Friday rolls around. I hope you enjoy the great resources and videos I discovered and bookmarked this week. In no particular order, I have listed my favorite top 10 sites, blog posts, and videos of the week below. Feel free to share your favorite finds of the week using the comment link found at the bottom of this post. Have a nice weekend!

  1. Power of the Pen – a heartwarming article and video about a teacher who sends his students and past students a handwritten letter on their birthday every year (even after they are no longer direct students). Thanks to Chris Atkinson for sharing this marvelous and touching video via Twitter and his blog: Teach It , Tech It, Learn It, Lead It.
  2. CompareMyDocs.com – compare, recombine, and merge different versions of a document…all on line and all free!
  3. typeitType It – this is a great web 2.0 resource for foreign language teachers. Use this online tool to type any text with foreign characters easily…choose a language, type whatever you need to type in a text box, and then paste it wherever you need it — into your word processor, e-mail message, etc. You can type foreign characters by clicking buttons or by pressing intuitive keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+Letter) that don’t require you to grow additional fingers and don’t block normal letters.
  4. tripticoTriptico – don’t be put off by the lengthy flash introduction; this is a marvelous online “magnet generator.” Simply type your words in the provided input box, select a background, and create your online manipulative magnets…great for interactive whiteboards!
  5. Power Teaching Critical Thinking AMAZING STUDENT ENGAGEMENT!
  6. 4096 Color Wheel – Use this tool to select the right color for web design. Hover over the square on this site to change saturation (left to right) and value (bottom to top) of the last hue. Use the keyboard to rotate hue: j rotates slowly counterclockwise, k rotates quickly clockwise, and l rotates slowly clockwise.
Jump to a primary or secondary color: red, green, blue, cyan, magenta, or yellow. The enter key will also add the current color to the pick list.
  7. Sleep, Sleep, Sleep – I have been sick, sick, sick this week so this Slideshare held real appeal…enjoy!
  8. World Wall Links – a marvelous portal of links to help teachers develop word walls for their classrooms.
  9. Punctuation Campground – a fun game that students can play to practice their punctuation skills.
  10. 2009 H1N1 Flu Outbreak Map – an interactive Google map depicting confirmed and probable cases of the 2009 Influenza A/H1N1 outbreak.

  1. Thanks Gail, I loved the Alphabetizer from the previous post. My students would enjoy looking but older kids may be creative and use it as an Art idea. Thanks. Lona.
